RM of Aberdeen’s story
The Rural Municipality of Aberdeen No. 373 incorporated on December 13, 1909. It lies along the South Saskatchewan River and surrounds the town of Aberdeen, where the RM office is located. Within its boundaries are a number of smaller communities and localities, among them Clarkboro, Edenburg, Laniwci and Strawberry Hills.
Early immigrants from Germany left their mark on the area. In 1919 they built St. Paul's Bergheim Evangelical Lutheran Church on a 12-hectare parcel on Bergheim Road. It is the one historical building in the municipality, and the church is still in use today.
Agriculture dominates the local economy. Major employers include Agrium Canada, the AGT Foods pulse crop facility, Parrish & Heimbecker Ltd., and the Hold-on Industries manufacturing facility. The CNR main line between Winnipeg and Edmonton passes through the area.
